How to get from Lisboa to Portalegre

Portalegre can be reached from Lisboa by train or coach.

Trains leave from Santa Apolónia or from ORIENTE, the new train station in Lisboa (reccommended).

There are bus services from the airport to ORIENTE train station.

The bus stop is located near the Arrival Building – when you get out of the building, cross the road, go down the staircase and you will find the bus stop on your right. Alternatively you can take a taxi (about 5 €, plus luggage tax).

If you do not start from de airport, you can use the underground (Metro) - red line to ORIENTE.

In ORIENTE there are two trains daily.

All days of the week:

08.04 am – arrival 11.00 pm;
04.31 am – arrival 08.23 pm.

The tickets cost about 10,50€ (standard class).

Normally you will have to change train at ENTRONCAMENTO and / or ABRANTES (please check, according to your train).

The train station in Portalegre is located in the outskirts of the town. You will have to catch a bus right outside the station to get to the centre.

Buses now leave from Terminal Rodoviário, Sete Rios. To get there you can catch a bus from the airport or the AEROBUS, slightly more expensive (fare about: 5€, corresponding to a whole day ticket) but more comfortable. Get out at MARQUÊS DE POMBAL and then get the underground (Metro) to JARDIM ZOOLÓGICO (bound to Amadora or Colégio Militar/Luz). Then follow the directions to Terminal Rodoviário. If you prefer to use the taxi, go directly to Terminal Rodoviário, Sete Rios and give the driver the same indications.

At present, these are the available timetables:

7.30 am - arrival 11.15 am;
1.00 pm - arrival 4.35 pm (Only on Fridays and Sundays);
2.00 pm - arrival 4.45 pm (Only on Fridays and Sundays);
3.00 pm - arrival 6.45 pm;
3.00 pm - arrival 7.10 pm (Only on Saturdays);
5.00 pm - arrival 8.00 pm (From Monday to Friday);
6.00 pm - arrival 8.45 pm (Only on Fridays);
6.00 pm - arrival 9.45 pm (Only on Sundays);
6.00 pm - arrival 10.10 pm (except on Saturday);
7.00 pm - arrival 11.15 (Only on Fridays).

The coach ticket costs about 11€.
